Exit splash by Dave Guindon, evidently, is a software that holds the attention of the exiting visitor that normally would never return to your website.  This gives you a second chance to present them with a different offer or slightly different offer to get their attention that they’ll convert and respond to.

There are a number of these different kinds of exit splash software out there on the market and doing my research they fall into two basic categories.

There is the type which grabs you on exit with a PHP or hover window flying in to catch your attention.  But you can still exit out the window by clicking the exit button.

Exit lockers are the type which trap you onto the page like a rat a cage. It’s usually a gray window which reminds you of a Windows error screen or a box which looks like the start of a chat session.  It takes two extra steps to click on OK on the first page, then click OK again on the second page when I all I wanted to do was exit the first page.

On the other hand, as a website operator similar to Dave Guindon, I want a chance to dazzle the people visiting my website.  So the question is “how do I do this with out annoying them?”

Since you’ve read this far you know I’ve mentioned this a bit earlier but it’s worth repeating.  Make sure the exit splash message you present to them is something they are highly likely to be interested in.  When I’m browsing around the Internet I always like to keep an eye on what other webmasters are doing.  Those who have these exit scripts I take note of whether they do a good job presenting me a sec and offer and then I can model what they are doing on my own sites. With anything like this you must test now different offers and messages allowing your website visitors to tell you which ones are most relevant and those they like best.
