Top Ten Technologies for Affiliate Businesses

Technology is a critical success factor for any internet marketing home-based business, but typically beginning internet marketers don’t have a good knowledge of what kind of technology is needed or how it will impact their establishment.

These ten tips should help you get started well. Try to establish processes and systems that integrate easily, and are up all of the time to assist buyers and prospects.

Establish a computerized system if you want to make your work uncomplicated and your bank account fat.

1. Computer & Peripherals

If you’re going to do internet marketing, you’ll need a computer – hopefully one that you own, a desktop model or a laptop. Obtain one with a lot of memory and processing speed. A broadband internet connection is desireable rather than dial-up. You’ll also need a printer. If you can, get both with wireless capabilities.

2. Your Custom Domain Name

Be certain to acquire a website name that you own, so that you can begin~start} to create your own mark. Moreover, some advertising platforms won’t allow you to refer to an affiliate website, but only a website name that you personally own. A respectable website name will be brief (30 characters or less), sensible to the eye and the ear, and indicative of your business or product. The most favored names end in “.com” and such names are preferred for most affiliate marketing businesses, when obtainable.

3. Telecommunications

Another indispensable tool is connectivity, including an Internet Service Provider and a phone – either land-line, cellular, or VOIP, with or without headset – as you prefer. It ought to have both local and long distance capabilities, and if you intend to hold conferences for your downline, the ability to handle conference calls. If you’re going to do trainings, etc., you’ll doubtless want to obtain a teleconferencing service that can manage many, perhaps hundreds or even a thousand, callers at the same time.

4. Hosting Services

You’ll need a web host to provide a “home” for your website. There are many such services on hand to benefit small businesses and internet businesses. Their capabilities do differ, as do their costs, so be sure to shop around before making your decision.

5. Systems & Info Precautions

You’ll also require good protection for your applications and online records. This includes physical security, plus technologies such as firewalls, and security programs like McAfee or Norton.

6. Applications & Data Backup & Restore Systems

Another necessity is for backup of your locally stored applications and data. Despite other security measures, there will eventually come a circumstance when you undergo a system crash, with either some or total loss of info and critical programs. So you will also want a healthy backup and restore program.

7. Goods

You’ll need one or more services to sell – products that you have developed yourself, or ones that have been created by one or more third parties. If you create your custom created goods, then you’ll also have to worry about maintaining appropriate inventories, performing upgrades, handling returns, etc. If you get your products from other vendors, then you’ll have to work at maintaining the relations with those vendors, order fulfillments, customer satisfaction and proper payment.

8. Affiliate Program Network

If you’re planning to offer various affiliate products, you’ll doubtless also want to participate with one or more Affilate Program Networks (APNs), such as ClickBank, CJ, or LinkShare, etc. to handle your commissions, sales statistics, and other back office functions for you.

9. Web 2.0 Capabilities

The internet is very dynamic, so if you want to be successful in today’s environment, you’ll want websites and services that support blogging and social communities (i.e., ones that use Web 2.0 to facilitate a whole host of interaction, using the web as the network platform).

10. Technical Support

Lastly – another frequently overlooked necessity – is the need for outstanding technical support – for both your local hardware and software, but even more importantly, for any of your customer-facing websites and product systems.

If these go down and you are not able to get rapid technical support from any/all your vendors, the resultant downtime can effect your advertising campaigns, you can lose or upset potential customers, and ultimately, your profits will suffer (including your brand, as well).

Technology is the lifeblood of an affiliate business, and Murphy’s Law being what it is, you have to to prepare for the ultimate downtime and system crashes that occur as well. Utilitzing all these required technologies will help ensure the success of your affiliate business.
